What is the difference between the ink in a fountain pen and a ballpoint pen?
Answered By Zach Pinegar, Editor
Ink is an important component of a pen of various types. The ink also varies from fountain pen to a ball point pen. Here is the difference:
- Fountain pen- the ink used is water-based. It has an element called dye which is commonly used rather than pigment. It is slower to dry and relatively transparent in appearance.
- Ball point pen- the ink used is alcohol-based which is thicker. It also makes use of dye for coloring purposes. It is tolerable in a thin sheet of paper because the ink does not seep into the water.
