Now in addition to the regular 'back to school' items, a number of IT devices has crept onto the list. USB Pen Drives for instance, are now a common tool used in schools by both Pupils and Teachers. These great little devices are the modern equivalent of Floppy Disks, however USB Pen Drives are much more tough and much more reliable. Also the smallest of USB Pen Drives will hold 88 times more information than a Floppy Disk. (Based on comparison of a Floppy Disk holding 1.44MB of data and a 128MB USB Pen Drive). These tough little devices make an ideal companion for any Student or Teacher. Transferring pictures, documents, music or any form of data between home and school becomes as simple as plugging the thing in to your computer, and dragging files either from your computer on to the Pen Drive or vice versa. You may then plug the Pen Drive into any computer with a USB port, and again just drag the files over to the computer you are now working on. The number one resource for homework and research (alongside the library of course) is the internet, but quite often the additional printing required when using the web as a resource can be expensive. If you are using a computer connected to a projector, it may be worth considering the use of a USB Pen Drive to transfer your presentation to the projection computer. CD / DVD Media can sometimes be a bit temperamental. The last thing you need is IT complications on your big day. Other presentation media that may be of use within our Photo Paper Department, is the quality Matt or Glossy photo paper which is ideal for presenting not only photographs but also super sharp illustrations and text. For readability it is best to use our Super Sharp Matt Photo paper for text pages, leaving glossy or semi-gloss papers for images, illustrations & graphs. For many students the majority of work carried out over the year is computer based. For these students it is recommended that regular backups are made of their work. The ideal solution for this is the Western Digital 'My Book' USB Hard Drive. These fantastic external hard drives make it easy to drag and drop those all important files to safety. If you are always on the move it may be worthwhile considering a Mobile USB Hard Drive. These are smaller, lighter and require less power to run, but are slightly more expensive. Those students who will be working on computer based illustration, but feel that a computer mouse is too difficult, too slow or non-expressive to work with, the Wacom Graphics Tablet will be a huge help. Graphic Tablets are simply amazing, helping to emulate the feel of drawing with a pencil or pen. With 128 levels of pressure sensitivity and tilt control, expression is no longer a problem when illustrating using a computer.
